Valencia // Spain

Spain is full of life, culture and sunshine. Valencia is a city on the east coast, a few hours south of Barcelona, with the beach just a few minutes away.

Every year, Valencia hosts the celebration of "Fallas". People come from all over Spain and the population of the city nearly triples. The reason for Fallas? No one really knows. Basically it's similar to what us in the US would consider the state fair, with street food, events, and vendors, but it's located all throughout the city. Leading up to Fallas, huge sculptures are built and then placed around the city. They're built from paper and have fireworks placed inside them. On the last day of Fallas these sculptures are lit on fire, which people gather around to watch. Every night of Fallas, there are amazing light shows and insane fireworks (none that would be legal in the US).

Valencia is where the dish "Paella" is originated from. It's found at almost every restaurant in the city. Paella is made in one big pan and brought to the table to be shared. It can be made with seafood, chicken, or rabbit. Spain is also known for their Sangria, and their "patatas bravas" - which is potatoes served with mayonnaise and a red sauce and eaten at almost every meal.
