Located in Florence, is the Ferragamo museum. The museum is located under the Salvatore Ferragamo store, with the exhibitions in the museum changing every year. Currently the atmosphere of the museum is a ship, to resemble the 90 year anniversary of when Salvatore sailed from the US back to Italy in 1927. The museum focuses on life in the 20s, including the trends and art movements of the time period.
Italian born Salvatore Ferragamo left Italy to dive into the fashion of the United States. While there, he became well known with celebrities for custom fit shoes. He was intrigued by shoes and he didn't understand why the classic "heel" was so uncomfortable. He gained an interest in atamony and began to shape shoes to properly fit feet. He used calculations to create the proper heel height which he based off the height of the woman. Creating the now well-known cork wedge and the steel enforced stilettos, when he returned to Italy in the late 20s, his ideas changed the shoe industry.
The 20s were filled with new things. When it came to shoes, Ferragamo introduced new textiles. Lace, embroidery and animal skin on shoes became the new fad.
